 Energy Projects

Falcon School District 49, Colorado Springs, CO

ESA is spearheading the school district’s efforts to acquire permits to drill two wells for irrigation use at one of the district’s high school sites saving $75,000 in water costs.   ESA is working with Falcon to pursue LEED and Energy Star certification of buildings.  ESA provides and maintains Falcon’s online data library detailing energy consumption and cost records for all district facilities since 1996.   ESA also served as Project Developers and Project Managers for Falcon’s $1.35 million Energy Bond program in 1998.   The annual savings from that effort are approximately $200,000 per year.

Harrison School District Two, Colorado Springs, CO

ESA provides turnkey Project Development and Project Management services relating to a district-wide integrated Energy Management, Security, and Work Order System.  ESA serves as the school districts’ Energy Consultants and Project Managers.  We direct projects in a collaborative effort with a district bond team that meets regularly to consider Energy, Security and Operational issues relating to the integrated project.   The installed system incorporates energy features including centralized equipment monitoring, temperature control, scheduling, troubleshooting, load management, and alarm notification strategies.

Town of Vail, Colorado

Development of four potential micro-hydro sites with a total power production of over 100 kW is being pursued on creeks that traverse town limits.  As an aspect of the Shared Savings agreement, ESA has invested in demonstration equipment Town-wide including setback thermostats, HVAC equipment tune-ups, and computerized operation of the HVAC systems in the Town parking structure to achieve savings.  First year savings for the project exceeded $40,000 (2003).

Pitkin County, Colorado

The installed BAS system has not worked correctly since it was installed over three years ago.  ESA is assisting the county in tracing the system components, verifying software and operational integrity, and reprogramming the system as needed to operate effectively.  The recommissioning effort is resulting in improved building comfort and reduced complaints by occupants.  Installation deficiencies have been identified and are being corrected, programming is being modified, and failed field components are being replaced or upgraded.

Denver Public Schools/Xcel Energy

ESA conducted a study of the bills and billing practices of utilities serving the Denver Public schools, and recovered over $430,000 in refunds from various utility and taxing entities.  ESA’s investigation covered approximately 500 monthly accounts over a five-year period.

Colorado Springs Utilities

ESA conducted Energy Audits and served as Project Managers for two utility-owned office and administrative facilities.

Boulder Valley Schools

ESA served as the districts’ Project Managers for a $12.5 million energy retrofit project addressing approximately 50 buildings.  The project savings exceeded  $2.5 million per year in 1996-1997.  See attached Article “Power Tactics”.  COP’s funded the BVSD Energy Project and the payments are made from annual energy savings.
