Projects

Falcon School District

Falcon School District
ESA currently serves as Falcon's Project Managers for their 2005 $80.5 million Mill Levy Override construction projects. In addition, ESA is providing project development and management for the installation of the building automation and security systems, and is the designated commissioning agent for all projects.

ESA served as Project Developers and Project Managers for Falcon's $1.35 million Energy Bond program in 1998. The annual savings from that effort were approximately $250,000 for the '04 - '05 fiscal year. ESA also provides and maintains Falcon's online data library detailing energy consumption and cost records for all district facilities since 1996. ESA serves as the Facilitator for Falcon's Energy Team.

Pitkin County

Pitkin County
ESA worked with Pitkin County conducting a resource conservation program from 2003 - 2006. ESA re-commissioned the County's facilities and worked with the County to correct and operate them efficiently.

The recommissioning effort resulted in improved building comfort and reduced complaints by occupants. Installation deficiencies were identified and corrected, programming was modified, and failed field components were replaced or upgraded. Pitkin County realized $50,000 in utility savings in the first year of the conservation program.

ESA also implemented a work order system for the County Facilities Department, with the intent to expand the system to other County departments.

Town of Vail

Vail Colorado
ESA conducted a resource conservation program with the Town of Vail from 2003 - 2004, realizing over $40,000 in annual utility savings. As an aspect of the conservation program, ESA installed equipment and performed services town-wide including setback thermostats, HVAC equipment tune-ups, and computerized operation of the HVAC systems in the Town parking structure to achieve savings.

ESA secured a state of Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation grant for the Town to develop 'High Performance Buildings' standards and address sustainable design issues associated with the proposed Conference Center design. Project outline included using LEED-defined standards in the design discussions, and recording the design team's efforts to include these components in the final design.

ESA also conducted a combined heat and power feasibility study as part of the Town's renovation projects.

Vail Resorts

Vail Resorts
ESA has provided Vail Resorts with consulting services for the past twenty years. A project developed by Mr. Walsh and installed for Vail Associates, Inc. which incorporated one of the first applications of "shared savings" financing received both a State of Colorado and U.S. Department of Energy Energy Innovation Award for the company in 1987.

ESA also designed and installed Vail's 'ASP-model' work order system used in maintaining equipment on Vail Mountain and the Base Area for all resort-owned ski and restaurant facilities. Vail's work order system runs entirely over the Internet, with no installed components on Vail's servers. Restaurant and department managers can request and check the status of their work orders on line, and the work orders are relayed to technicians via PDA devices.

Harrison Schools

Vail Resorts
ESA provided turnkey Project Development and Project Management services relating to a district-wide integrated Security, Card Access, CCTV, Building Automation, and Work Order System. ESA designed project Scope, solicited vendor qualifications, and commissioned the project.

ESA served as the school districts' Energy Consultants and Project Managers. We directed projects in a collaborative effort with a district bond team that met regularly to consider Energy, Security and Operational issues relating to the integrated project. The installed system incorporates energy features including centralized equipment monitoring, temperature control, scheduling, troubleshooting, load management, and alarm notification strategies.

Adams 12 Schools

Vail Resorts
ESA served as Adams-12 in-house, on-site Sustainable Design and Resource consultants for capital projects related to their 2004 Bond. The bond focus included adding air conditioning to non-air conditioned school facilities, remodeling and refurbishing projects, additions, and new construction including one middle and two elementary schools to date. ESA represented the interests of resource and operational efficiency throughout the design and construction process, adding a voice for best practices in this regard to the process. ESA spearheaded the re-writing of district Technical Specifications to incorporate modern equipment and techniques, and actively participated in key planning and design charettes.

ESA was an adjunct to the Adams-12 staff, and directly participated in Maintenance and Construction Management determinations as well as Planning activities. Among the tools employed is a software tool that calculates Total Cost of Ownership over the life of the facility as an aid in planning the best design solution for the Owner.

Morgan Creek Ventures

Vail Resorts
ESA was the LEED Commissioning Agent for "The Walnut" luxury condo complex located in downtown Boulder, CO. The project involved design review, regular site inspections, functional testing of individual equipment and the whole building system, and LEED certification guidance. The building has 34 condominiums of varying sizes and utilizes various green building features, such as a photovoltaic collector array and a vegetated roof.

State of Colorado

Vail Resorts
ESA secured a state of Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation grant to develop 'High Performance Buildings' standards and address sustainable design issues associated with schools. The initial project incorporated the participation of the Owner (Falcon School District 49), Architects, Civil Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Poudre Valley School District, and a General Contractor. The project focused on development of an anticipated middle and high school, with application to elementary buildings to be developed. The Standards will be shared with all Colorado school districts.

Colorado Springs Utilities

Vail Resorts
ESA served as Project Managers for two utility-owned office and administrative facilities. Responsibilities included oversight of installation of recommended energy retrofits including replacement of rooftop units, and reprogramming and recommissioning of existing BAS systems.

Boulder Valley Schools

Vail ResortsBoulder Valley Coal Pile
ESA served as the districts Project Managers for a $12.5 million energy retrofit project addressing approximately 50 buildings. The project savings exceeded $2.5 million per year from 1996-1997. The project earned the Association of Energy Engineers Energy Project of the Year Award.

Denver Public Schools

Vail Resorts
ESA conducted a study of the bills and billing practices of utilities serving the Denver Public schools, and recovered over $430,000 in refunds from various utility and taxing entities. ESA's investigation covered approximately 500 monthly accounts over a 5 year period.

Woodland Park Schools

Vail Resorts
ESA has provided energy and operations consulting services to Woodland Park since 1998. ESA helped to control the District's utility consumption through data tracking and analysis. The District realizes annual utility savings exceeding $75,000. ESA fully populated a CMMS database including field surveys of equipment, establishment of asset naming conventions, and detailed information including model numbers, serial numbers, warranty information, specifications, and parts. Turnkey installation included complete cross-referencing of available blueprints, shop drawings, and Operations and Maintenance manuals.

Beaver Creek, CO

Vail Resorts
ESA provided re-commissioning services for Beaver Creek. Beaver Creek requested that ESA re-commission their building automation systems to evaluate functionality and provide options for system upgrades.
